Things to see at Hardcastle Crags
I have walked in the Crags almost every day for more than two decades and I see something new every week.
With over 400 acres of woodland and open grasslands with a river and streams running through it, there is an extraordinary list of things to see at Hardcastle Crags.
What you can see at Hardcastle Crags:
- A managed woodland with over 40 native tree species,
- Hardcastle Crags, a series of small rocky outcrops of millstone grit,
- An extensive list of wild flowers, some of them quite rare,
- The rivers and streams in the valley,
- Hundreds of species of mushrooms and fungi,
- Bryophytes, mosses, liverworts and hornworts,
- Archaeological sites and remains,
- An incredible variety of bird life, Including all three native woodpeckers and woodcock,
- The insect life both in and out of the water,
